THE GOALBALL CLINIC IS DESIGNED TO

increase awareness about the sport of Goalball, |

provide a venue for individuals who are blind and visually impaired to play a sport designed just for them, |

allow sighted family and friends of individuals who are blind and visually impaired to play , and |
![]() |
provide the opportunity for networking and meeting others from around the Hampton Roads area |
TEAMS

Teams and games will be grouped according to ages. A team is made up of no more than 5 people, but only 3 team members play at a time. Don’t worry if you are not part of a team. You will be teamed up when you arrive ready to play. |

Players can be blind, visually impaired or sighted. However, each player must wear a blindfold to play. |

The game will consist of two 5-minute halves |
GENERAL NOTES

Since Goalball is played on the floor on hands and knees, it is highly recommended players wear knee and elbow pads to avoid skinned knees and elbows |

While the game is in play, the audience must be quiet so the players can hear the ball |

If your eye condition puts you at risk for retinal detachments, you should not play Goalball. However, your support is welcome. |

"Keep Your Ear on the Ball " Goalball documentary

Keith Maitland's documentary “Keep Your Ear on the Ball” has been
accepted into the Independent Feature Project Market in New York City in September. He'll be able to introduce the film, which is about a year in the life of a group of blind Austin teenagers who play goalball. Check out the trailer (there's an audio-assisted version for the visually impaired)...
