Following was an invitation from the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation (CSAVR) to participate in a national conference call on H.R. 27 and the WIA Plus Consolidated Grant proposal.  H.R. 27 and the potential for a WIA Plus Consolidated Grant (Block Grant) proposes drastic changes to the public VR program and if implemented will shape services available to people with disabilities for years to come.  Please share freely with your networks of advocates and other persons concerned about the future of the public VR program.  Much is at stake.

This coming Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 1pm EST, CSAVR will host and co-sponsor a nationwide conference call, entitled the “The Truth about the WIA Plus Consolidated Grant”.   In part, this is in response to the Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration’s national conference call earlier this week in which they announced their intention to go forward with the their WIA Plus Consolidated Grant efforts. They have indicated their desire to enlist the support of the disability community by talking about their view of how dysfunctional the Public VR Program is and its perception of VR as antiquated and bureaucratic and to contrast that with the opportunity they see as part of this block grant/waiver authority that would be presented to Governors.
