2007 NFBV Convention & Employment Seminar
The National Federation of the Blind of Virginia
Announces its
2007 Convention and Employment Seminar
You are invited to our 2007 NFBV state convention to be held in Virginia Beach starting on Friday, November 2 and ending on Sunday, November 4.
Announcing the NFBV Employment Seminar at this year’s convention!
On Friday afternoon, we will be presenting an Employment Seminar specifically relevant to:
· Those just starting their careers after graduation;
· Those wishing to rejoin the workforce after an absence;
· Those wishing to enhance their careers or who wish to investigate new ones.
During the Employment Seminar, you will have the opportunity to listen to dynamic blind and low-vision individuals telling you about how to find, apply for, and get the jobs you want. You will hear from lawyers, software engineers, business people, human services professionals, and internationally recognized motivational speakers, and others. Come to the Employment Seminar and leave with the tools you need to make the next job you want yours!
The two-and-a-half day convention has so much to offer. Below is just a glimpse at all the exciting activities that you won’t want to miss!
· A ‘must see’ for everyone visiting our convention is our day-long Adaptive Technology exhibition. All day Friday of the convention, adaptive technology vendors from across the state will have their products available for demonstrations, training, and sales. This should be everyone’s first stop when contemplating the purchase of a low-vision or blindness related assistive device.
· For several years, our Braille Carnival has been a favorite of young people (both sighted and blind) because the fun is for everyone. Bring all your children to the carnival where they can win prizes, meet others, and learn how Braille can be an important tool towards developing independent living skills.
· Diabetes is a major cause of vision loss, and the Diabetics Division of the NFBV is there with information about the latest in research, testing technology, and things you can do to achieve a healthy lifestyle. There is no cure for the disease. However, having the right information can help you manage it. Visit the Diabetics Division meeting during our convention if you have diabetes or wish to learn about what resources are available to you.
· The highlight of our convention is our Saturday evening banquet and program speaker. Come join us for food, fellowship, and a program that is guaranteed to inspire.
